Manchester United have completed the signing of former England international goalkeeper, Jack Butland on loan till the end of the season. Butland joins the Reds from Crystal Palace where he was mostly second choice to Vicente Guaita.
United’s search for a new back up goalkeeper was triggered by Martin Dubravka’s recall by Newcastle United. Dubravka rejoins the Magpies after making 2 appearances in the Carabao Cup for United.
United are seeking success across four different competitions and manager Eric Ten Hag has been adamant that a big squad will be important for the Reds.
Butland joins a highly experienced goalkeeping unit that includes David De Gea and Tom Heaton. De Gea has amassed over 500 appearances for Manchester United, earning him legendary status. Tom Heaton has 116 appearances in the Premier League and has featured for England at the senior level. Besides the two, youngster Nathan Bishop will offer extra cover for the Red Devils.
Butland himself has a wealth of Premier League experience with 87 appearances. He also has 9 senior caps for the 3 Lions.
Speaking on his move, Butland heaped praise on United and its goalkeeping unit.
“This is an amazing club and one that I am now proud to represent. I’m really looking forward to working with an unbelievable goalkeeping group, supporting each other every day to create the best training and playing environment for the team.”
